Minimum Days at SECA are usually are not much different than any other day, beside the fact student are released earlier.

Recently this has changed, Minimum days are going to introduce a new opportunity for students. Over the summer, Faculty collaborated on ways to make better use of this schedule, as well as, help students in school. Seminar/Workshops allow teachers to go over topics that were not covered in classes or was not clear in classes.

The new addition can be a new study outlet for many of the students, and offer many new directions for them. These Seminars are based on teacher decisions, and can be things like, Personality Assessments, Historical Dance lessons, or a review on biological diseases. These Seminars are all effective in informing students about new and interesting lessons, about themselves, their classes or their future.

“The goal of these seminar workshops is giving students an opportunity to further expand their own knowledge,” Mr.Thom said.

Mr. Thom said “The workshops can be used to help them with things they didn’t understand in class.”

“It came up at a Las Vegas Professional Learning Community Conference. I think it was a response to the idea that the whole staff tutoring on minimum day wasn’t as effective as we wanted it to be.” Ms.Powell said.

Teachers may see this as an opportunity to improve the study habits of students.

“A lot of people don’t know how to work with fractions,” Ms.Wang said.

Some teachers, think that the older schedule may be more beneficial than the newer one.

“I lose teaching days and time.”Ms. Wang says.

Minimum Days are changing, but they may be changing to create a more effective and interesting learning environment for the students and teachers.
